Fiskardo Harbour
What a pretty place! The only place on the island not to have destroyed by the 1953 earthquake and you can tell. Gorgeous, colourful, old houses squashed into narrow, higgledy-piggledy alleys and everywhere fabulous flowers bursting out of window ledges and over gates.
There are tiny squares, with cafes, restaurants and bars and the usual array of tourist paraphernalia on sale. The old harbour front is a mass of yachts and fishing boats.
The only drawback is getting there. Fiscardo is a very long drive from the south of the island. Maybe this is quite a good thing, as it stops it getting too busy. We cheated and took a boat trip up the east side of Kefalonia from Skala well worth it and a fantastic day out!
We went with Captain Vangelis (check out the groovy 70s photos of him on his advertising leaflets priceless!) on his glass-bottomed boat, stopping on the way back at various deserted coves for a swim. Idyllic.
