Harakti Square and Church
Harakti is one of the main inland towns of Kefalonia, which we passed through most days on our journeys. A well kept, thriving Greek town, going about its business, quite untroubled by tourists.
Kefalonia is a huge island. We were amazed by the sheer size of the place - it takes some driving around, I can tell you! The mountains are enormous and the whole place is so green! Well worth a day's car rental.
The roads are well maintained, though they do go very high, round some hair pin bends. But they are easily wide enough not to worry about that cement lorry coming towards you around the next corner. Don't get too excited about getting out of 3rd gear though - it may not happen.
We used the map provided by the car rental company - it wasn't great, but the one we then bought was much, much worse! The scale was obviously not a consideration when these maps were made. Many roads and villages do not exist at all on the map - which can be confusing if you are there
