Mirtos Beach ( Myrtos Beach ) is one of the beaches used in the filming of Captain Correlli's Mandolin. It is fantastically spectacular, but has its own challenges: Number one is the hairy road down there - steep, twisting, narrow, with cliffs on one side and a mountain on the other. If you meet a coach coming back up as you go down, be careful: it may try to nudge you off the edge.... Number two are the toilets: truly the most awful on the island. Number three is the fact that all that white stuff which looks like sand, is in fact white pebbles. Number four is a warning which I should have heeded myself.
