Pastra
This is a view of the south of the island, away from the huge mountains which dominate most of the landscape inland. We often saw the neighbouring islands of Zante and Ithaka across the sea here.
Kefalonia is a huge island. We were amazed by the sheer size of the place it takes some driving around, I can tell you! The mountains, north of this spot are enormous and the whole place is so green! Well worth a day's car rental.
The roads are well maintained, though they do go very high, round some hair pin bends. But they are easily wide enough not to worry about that cement lorry coming towards you around the next corner. Don't get too excited about getting out of 3rd gear though it may not happen.
We used the map provided by the car rental company it wasn't great, but the one we then bought was much, much worse! The scale was obviously not a consideration when these maps were made. Many roads and villages do not exist at all on the map which can be confusing if you are there....
